When I first started thinking about what I wanted to name this site I had a difficult time.
I knew that I really wanted to help people find a job or career that they were passionate about.
I knew that I wanted to help them find a job or a career that kept them engaged in day and and day out.
I knew that I wanted to help these people find the job or career that also got them out of bed on Monday morning excited to take on the week ahead of them.
Ultimately I wanted to help people find a job or career that they truly loved!
But there was a problem…
I couldn’t think of the perfect name that conveyed all that.
So as I started thinking about different names for this site I continued to interview people about the different jobs that they have had.
I gave them a questionnaire and I continued to document their answers.
In my ongoing attempt to learn what had been their best and worst jobs over time I really wanted to know “why” they classified these jobs this way.
I asked tons of questions and collected a lot of data in an attempt to quantify why the interviewees thought the jobs or careers were their best or worst.
As I looked thorough all the data I came to a rather interesting revelation.
A good percentage of the people describe their best job or careers as ones weren’t the typical types of jobs or careers that I expected.
The answers ranged from to veterinary assistant to hospice volunteer and from camp counselor to cupcake maker.
These answers really intrigued me and now more than ever I wanted to know the “why”.
As I dug deeper the answer became clear.
The “jobs” that they classified as their best had to do with one thing…and it wasn’t the money!
For a lot of people the pay was actually very low on the list.
As a matter of fact the reasons that they loved their “best” jobs had very little to do with money at all.
The joy or fulfillment came from their purpose and meaning for doing these jobs.
Some had a grand purpose to change the world while others found meaning in how their “job” allowed them to fulfill their mission.
So what I realized is that for some people that means getting a job or having a career doing what they love…but for others it doesn’t.
You see some peoples “Dream Work” could be a job or career in the traditional sense but for others it has nothing to do with a traditional “job” at all.
For some their “Dream Work” is something that they are working on outside of how they actually pay the bills.
For them it might be a side project or part time venture that has more meaning to them than money could ever provide.
After taking all this in it finally hit me…
What I really wanted to help people discover was that something that mattered to them on a very deep level.
I wanted to help them discover that thing and take massive action to get going!
I wanted them to find the thing(s) that lit them up and help them along they way so that they could make there own dent in the world in a way that only they could!
I wanted to help people find their “Dream Work” and I now realized this type of “work” could take on many forms.
So instead of naming this site something directly related to finding your dream JOB I decided that the Dream WORK Project was the perfect fit for what I was trying to accomplish here.
My “project” is to help your find or create the work you truly love!
So now I ask you…what is your “Dream Work” and when do you get started?
